Black Forest Granite
Black Forest Granite has a black background with a sweeping pattern of white flowing across the surface. Inside this swirl of white you can see hints of silver, ivory and even gold. This granite is quarried in both Brazil and Karnataka, Southern India1. The term Black Forest is used to describe any black granite with a white swirling pattern across the surface.
Just like Cosmic Black, Black Forest has proven to be extremely popular for both granite worktops and luxury furniture items. It is an ideal material to use as a centre piece to a room due to the striking white patterning which flows across the deep black surface.
As you can see below the swirling white pattern flows across the whole slab (this can be seen below). The degree of the swirling on each slab can be very different due to natural variance2. For this reason, if the pattern across your granite is important to your design scheme it is recommended to confirm you are happy with the slab before purchase. On smaller projects such as granite coffee tables and other items of luxury furniture this patterning will not have a large effect on your design scheme but on flooring and granite cladding projects the effect can be dramatic.
Black Forest Granite is a great material for feature pieces and can be combined beautifully with a number of materials. As you can see below the Black Forest granite island beautifully integrates with the solid wood flooring and seating. This combination works just as well when used as a granite table top and combined with oak or walnut legs. Outside of natural wood Black Forest also integrates wonderfully with both black and white. You can see the combination of this granite with either black or white units in hundreds of kitchens across the world.
If you are after a black granite which can be used as a centre piece to your design scheme Black Forest is certainly one of the best materials you could choose.
