What Is Carrara Marble?
Carrara marble is extracted from 'The Apuan Alps' in the Tuscany region of Italy. The city in which this marble is quarried is called Carrara hence the name. However, in 'Ancient Rome' this material was referred to as "Luni Marble". The reason for this is the place in which it is quarried is an area of Carrara called 'Luni'. Aside from being famous for it's use throughout history, this marble is also renowned for it's white and grey colouring and taking an excellent polish.
There are more than 600 quarry sites in the Carrara region3, and this area has produced more marble than other place on earth. The demand for this material has shown no sign of slowing and it remains a great material to use in the construction of furniture.
